James is our unflappable Cellar Door Manager. With extensive experience in the hospitality industry James made the move from Sydney a couple of years ago to apply his skills to the wine industry. Lurking beneath that quietly spoken demeanour is a brilliant knowledge of wine and a very dry sense of humour.
Janet joined the team in October 2014 and as soon as her unsurpassed organisational skills were discovered she was quickly thrown into the role of Operations Manager. Janet now keeps the place superbly organised and combines these stellar skills with her love of wine. Janet is currently on maternity leave but is managing to keep us in line remotely.
Rachel has been with Small Winemakers since 2006 but has worked with Hunter Valley wine for over 30 years so there isn’t much our Rachel doesn’t know about the Hunter. Rach has a fantastic palate and her opinion is highly valued among the winemakers (as well as her wicked sense of humour). Listen closely and you’ll find out all the secrets of the Hunter Valley....
A veteran of the Hunter Valley, Carolyn has a vast knowledge of the Valley's history. With an infectious laugh and kind manner, our visitors warm to this lovely lady immediately. Experiencing a wine tasting with Carolyn will be like sitting around your family dinner table and regaling stories of past vintages. You'll want to stay all day!
Miriam joined our team in early 2015 and brings a vivaciousness to our Cellar Door! An expert in the local restaurant scene, Miriam is always ready to offer her recommendations on local dining options. In her spare time, she loves nothing more than a glass of wine and a karaoke microphone ...
Also joining us in early 2015, young Robert is everyone's surrogate nephew. Robert is quickly learning all there is to know about wine and is fascinated with the science behind winemaking. Hint: if you happen to follow English Premier League football you may want to set aside a good amount of time for your visit if Robert is on.
A Hunter local, Jeremy grew up with the family winery a stone's throw from home so he is well acquainted with the seasonal rhythm of the Hunter Valley. With two vintages at First Creek Winery already under his belt Jeremy combines winery work with cellar door work so he's the go-to guy for curly questions.
Jonah (aka Noah) is our newest recruit and we challenge anyone not to warm to this lovely young man. An accomplished amateur actor, Jonah is now studying at Newcastle University and he's quickly learning the intricacies of wine. If you happen to be starting a new band and need a good name for it - this is the guy to ask!
