The Oakey Creek Vineyard has been a part of the history within the Hunter community for many years. The fruit was harvested by hand on 31st January 2013, just before a major storm blew in to the Hunter Valley. The fruit was crushed, pressed and chilled, then racked after 48 hours on lees followed by a slow cool ferment with neutral yeast. The wine was then left to settle on gross lees for a period of time to encourage additional complexity and depth of flavour. Bottled in late May.
This is a classic Hunter Semillon, with a subtle aroma of citrus zest and grapefruit. The palate is rich and delicious, with the beautiful chalky minerality so often found in wines from this vineyard in good years. The lively palate, lemon zest, grassy and mineral aromas blend to a finely structured palate, with a delicate flinty talc acid finish. Perfect to drink now or cellaring should reward for 10 years +.
