2016 has turned out the most beautiful and refined Semillons, after being salvaged from the weather. After a much drier than normal spring in 2015, the Valley saw significant rain events through November, December and January. And then it stopped. Winemakers Damien and Jodie picked their first parcel of white on the January 19, with all the reds in by February 23, so a very fast and furious vintage for us.
Provenance & Winemaking
Located off Broke Road at the western end of Pokolbin, the Noble Domain vineyard has approximately 3 acres planted across fine sandy loam soils, which this year have encouraged a fine, silky and textural wine. Always a little more generous on the palate this vineyard tends to produce riper characters, but layered so beautifully with the crunchy acidity, its ready to be enjoyed. We run the ferments slow and steady, to maximise natural ester production, with the resulting wine a delicate, yet classic example, defined by its seamless structure.
Winemakers Damien and Jodie never waiver from the enjoyment of young Semillon, it is pure delight in bottle. Almost water clear in colour with a little green hue, the aroma screams delicious. Limes, lemons, waxy lanolin, followed by extreme crispy, crunchy apple, grated lime rind and a touch of wet slate on the palate.
Definitely enjoy this wine now, but if you can wait it should keep for 7+ years.
We are drinking The Remparts with grilled scampi and couscous salad.
